Happy Book Birthday to The Canina Thorn!

Find out what happens in Nicoleta’s epic quest to save her kingdom. The final battle begins…

This high fantasy series begins with The Lilac Plague. Nicoleta finds out that the words she spoke as a child were actually an oath she didn’t understand: a promise to be a Guardian for the True Key. Too soon, she finds herself forced to choose between finding her papa or finding the true heir to the throne, the one person who could stop the curse plaguing her people.

Of course, with each novel, there are new enemies, new allies, with twists and turns until the very end of this epic saga!

Q&A with Kaci Morgan https://old.kristinjdawson.com/qa-with-kaci-morgan/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=qa-with-kaci-morgan Thu, 02 Apr 2020 18:18:32 +0000 http://old.kristinjdawson.com/?p=47580 The Lilac Plague, The Viking Maiden, and Queen Immortal are coming together for an awesome spring paperback book bundle!

I’m so excited these two authors are joining me for an instagram giveaway (starting May 7th!). Both of them are getting rave reviews on their high fantasy novels with intrigue, high stakes, and sweet romance. Queen Immortal is coming out with the next installment in late summer and The Viking Maiden series just completed — so it’s an exciting time to get on board with all of these fantasy novels!

To celebrate, Kaci Morgan kindly answered my Q&A questions!

Question #1: If you could go into any fantasy world, which one would you pick?

I LOVE Juliet Marillier’s historical fantasy world in the Sevenwater Series. It is mostly similar to our world, unless you happen to find yourself crossing over to the other world of the Fae, where magical creatures, good and bad, exist to either help or harm. It is so fascinating and I daresay I’m a bit of a fanatic for the world she has created.

Question #2: What is the most surprising feedback you’re getting about your novel?

I was surprised to find out that young kids (as young as 8 years old) have loved the book. So much so that one darling young 9-year-old girl dressed up as Beza for Halloween.  At first, I marketed my book as an adult fantasy, then quickly changed to young adult after finding out how young people are enjoying it as well. Lastly, I have had readers tell me that they don’t normally like fantasy, but have thoroughly enjoyed my book. So even if fantasy is not your genre, I think you will find the mystery and romance of the novel gripping enough to keep you turning pages.

Question #3: What was your inspiration for the novel?

My inspiration came when I realized how much I love to read about strong female protagonists. I decided to make the strongest one I could think of, who seemed perfect on the outside, but was not so on the inside. I also plucked a few characters from my first novel (which is unpublished and will remain so forever) who I knew could not be shelved. Vohar, a possible love interest for Beza, Samia, a witch who seems a bit crazy to those around her but ultimately ends up playing a vital (albeit slim) role in the novel, and Blentif, the prince whom you’ll love to hate.

Question #4: How many books are in the series and when are they scheduled to come out?

For now, I have three books total set for the series. Book two will be released in August 2019, and book three in the Spring of 2020.  More books are simmering, depending on reader interest. Beza’s story might be put to rest in book three, but there are many people in her life that could carry the story of on.

Question #5: Why did you feel it was important to have this book out into the world?

As with most books, there is a moral to the story, one that I feel is pertinent to all of us.  Beza is a three-hundred-fifteen-year-old queen, who is also immortal, and by all means holds greater power, and beauty, than anyone else in the book (or in our world as we know it). However, she is flawed and imperfect and has lessons to learn, just like all of us. She experiences things that make her doubt herself and her ability, just like all of us. And more than anything, she wants to feel loved by those around her, just like all of us. Bottom line, Queen Beza is a very relatable character whom readers grow to love and root for, and in rooting for her, we also root for ourselves and our capacity as flawed individuals to overcome even the greatest obstacles.

Join my newsletter for “deleted scenes” from my novels.

For example, I originally didn’t have a prologue. Instead, the first two chapters were Nikka at 12 years old. In the first version, chapter one was when the Lilac Plague struck. And then chapter two was roughly three weeks later with the raid. But I realized I could only have one scene with 12-year old Nikka. So I moved that to the prologue and cut chapter two, only including a fraction of the information about the raids as flashbacks. Unfortunately, there were tender moments between Nikka and her mom that had to be cut, along with Nikka’s horrible experience when the raids came to town. Want it? Join my newsletter list.

And… there’s another scene. A BIG ONE…between book 2 and book 3 in this series. No spoilers here, but you. will. want. it! Join the list!
